Qualified candidates are an elusive, shrinking, moving target. The labor market is shrinking, time-to-fill is increasing, and cost-per-hire is rising. And yet most organizations continue to recruit future employees like it was 1970. Consequently, top talent just “swipes left” in mind-numbing fashion. To win the race for talent, an exceptional candidate experience matters from – your career site to the job offer. During the presentation Recruiting in the Age of Googlization author/speaker Ira S Wolfe will guide you on a candidate’s job search and provide tips and insights on how to convert more qualified job seekers to new hires.

Exponential change isn’t waiting for HR to catch up. Nearly every expert agrees – the race for talent is just beginning and the future of HR depends on its ability to recruit (and retain) employees.

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Identify the 10 signs of a broken recruitment process
    • How to fix the most common candidate experience blunders
    • Learn common sense digital recruitment marketing skills

Join us for a roundtable discussion on different avenues for growing your training business.

Many training businesses begin from the passion of one or two founders who want to solve problems for organizations. By the nature of the beast, if you do your job right, you’ll soon have too many clients to handle on your own. As your client base expands in geography, your permanent staff will stretch thin, too.

So how do you expand from there?

In this roundtable discussion, our panelists from varied training companies will discuss the many ways you can continue to expand your business.

Join us for a free hour of like-minded training and consulting services teams exploring questions such as:

    • What are growth options, like train-the-trainer or contract trainers?
    • How do you set up a growth plan that is scalable?
    • How do you protect your intellectual property while expanding your network?

Prior to this, Jerry was a product development engineer. Jerry lives with his wife Roshi and cat Domino in Chicago and is currently working his way through all the deep-dish pizza places in the city.

Lauren Powers, Senior Vice President, heads up sales and marketing at Barnes & Conti Associates, Inc., a learning and development firm, where she is responsible for driving business and meeting client needs working with a worldwide training network. Prior to joining Barnes & Conti in 2005, Lauren was the Eastern Regional Manager for another learning company for many years. She also served as Director of Training & Development at a large bank and has held a variety of training and consulting roles at several companies.

Lauren’s hybrid perspective as both an internal and external consultant provides her with insight into many of the challenges faced by consulting firms as they partner with clients and grow business worldwide. Her skills include global sales and account management and new business development as well as training program design and delivery, needs analysis, organizational consulting, curriculum development, process facilitation and coaching.

When not working, Lauren can be found enjoying beach time with her family, traveling, cooking feasts and playing ball with Bula, her boisterous labrador retriever.

Our workforces are more diverse than ever. Teams are working across geography, generations, and cultures… From virtual spaces and varied mindsets. So how do we achieve authentic understanding in the workplace with so many different people in the mix? It begins with communicating across our differences and with candor.

But it’s one thing to talk about communicating more effectively, and another to implement strategies—especially during those frantic times in the office when you’re under a deadline, feel pressure, and are addressing issues with people who you don’t always see eye to eye with. According to a study conducted at the University of Kansas, it takes an average of 50 hours to turn an acquaintance into a friend, and 200 hours to make a close friend. Authentic communication and relationship building takes time! It’s essential to understand what communication means in the workplace and how to effectively use this time to effectively recruit, retain and engage employees

Her work helps to bridge communication gaps across generations, job functions, and geographies, and she has worked with organizations ranging from non-profits to multi-billion-dollar enterprises. She has delivered a TEDx talk on authentic workplace communication, and has been featured in media outlets including Forbes, NPR, ABC, FOX, and CBS. Do they improve leaders’ performance?

    Yes and no.

Training is actually among the least effective ways to increase performance, especially leader effectiveness. Despite this common knowledge, companies commonly look to training as their first and sometimes only way to prepare people for leadership positions.

Managers have responsibility for developing their people and for preparing their successors, but they are not trained as educators or developmental psychologists, so they are often ill-prepared for this responsibility. Additionally, managers are often so focused on “the work” that they don’t have time to nurture talent on their teams. Human resource professionals, who managers often look to for help, are often in a similar situation. HR generalists can be stretched so thin across multiple roles that they don’t acquire necessary leadership development expertise. HR specialists focus on unique disciplines, e.g., compensation, benefits, or recruiting. As a result, development is often outsourced to the training department. This is a regrettable, but common, practice. There are, however, other practical and effective solutions that keep managers in the “driver’s seat” and HR professionals in the backseat providing guidance and support.

Most people (yes, even speakers) are not born networkers; they develop the skills and confidence through education, training, practice, and having a positive attitude. Whether you’re at a cocktail party, networking event, chapter meeting, convention, or other business function, it’s not who you know but who you want to know. Bottom line, networking (other than more speaking) is the most effective way to attract more prospects, generate more referrals, and book more gigs.

In the “main event”, we will discuss the techniques and approaches to effectively understand and embrace a networking mindset, developing a target marketplace, having meaningful conversations, delivering a structured (not scripted) “elevator speech”, effectively following up, and most importantly – creating key relationships that impact your speaking calendar.

Michael Goldberg, CSP has helped financial advisors, brokers, agents, reps, wholesalers and other sales producers generate hundreds of thousands of dollars to their bottom line. His firm Knock Out Networking, LLC is renowned as a speaking and training resource in the financial services industry. Described by clients as a “spark plug”, Michael is a master at invigorating and engaging audiences. His “knock-out” style is “in your face” and high energy. His content is “real world” and can be applied immediately. Michael speaks at conferences and associations, runs sales meetings, and delivers “results driven” programs on networking, referral marketing, and sales presentations.

Clients include John Hancock Investments, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Guardian Life, Jackson National, Penn Mutual, AXA Advisors, Prudential, MetLife, New York Life, Thrivent Financial, Colonial Life, and Chubb & Son.

Michael writes regular columns for the Huffington Post, Life Health Pro, Producers Web, Producers E-Source, Horsesmouth and has been quoted in the Harvard Business Review and Wall Street Journal. Michael has spoken at numerous conferences in the financial services industry including the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) and has spoken for TEDx at Yale University.
